Juliet Kirby

Mary Sikes

Juliet Kirby grew up in England and studied art at the Byam Shore School and The Central School of Art in London. She immigrated to the United States and studied botanical art at the New York Botanical Garden, graduating from their wonderful certificate program.

After moving to Williamsburg, Virginia, she started teaching botanical art at the Peninsular Fine Arts Center in Newport News, This Century Art Gallery in Williamsburg and at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond.

Most of Juliet’s paintings are of plants she grows in her garden, or from her orchid collection. “If you grow plants yourself, there are endless possibilities to pick fresh specimens as needed and study the plant’s growth habits.

Her happiest times are spent painting lilies, magnolias and other sweet smelling flowers in her studio while listening to classical music.

During 2009 she has exhibited her work at Lewis Ginter Garden in Richmond, Virginia and at the Charles H. Taylor Art Center in Hampton, Virginia. She has had a one person exhibit at the James City County offices in Williamsburg and during September through November ’09 will have a show at the Williamsburg Sentara Hospital in Williamsburg.

Juliet is a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA) and the Botanical Art Society of the National Capital Region (BASNCR).
