Seeking Color: Recent Photographs
by Kathy Hornsby
February 13 – March 21, 2015
Kathy Hornsby has studied with photographers Joel Collins, Jeremy Woodhouse, and National Geographic Photographers Nevada Wier, and Jim Richardson and she has practiced it around the world. She is drawn to color and finds it everywhere the goes. Seeking Color: Recent Photographs by Kathy Hornsby shows how she searches out color and how she renders it into striking photographs. The show will be on display February 13 – March 21, 2015 in the gallery at Prince George Art & Frame.
Of her work Kathy says: “Seeking Color is a collection of favorite photographs from my travels; journeys down the road close to home, or to the other side of the earth. Wherever I am, color attracts me. It jolts, yet soothes. It surprises, yet feels familiar. It overloads, yet restores. It vibrates, yet stills. Dutch painter Piet Mondrian stated, "Color is my day-long obsession, joy, and torment." I understand. Color can bring a photo to life or drag it straight to the trash.” This show amply displays all these attributes.
Color is clearly the important part of Kathy’s photography in these travel pictures, and the locales she visits have plenty of color to offer. Even when the colors are softer it still is what draws the viewer in and makes viewing the photographs exciting. Her work rewards the viewer both with interest and beauty.
